/The challenge

Ionech designs and patents first-of-a-kind energy technologies, and its breakthroughs happen where nobody can see them: inside air at molecular level, or within advanced materials that turn movement into power. They needed two short films that could explain the science clearly enough to be credible to technical experts, without losing investors, partners and non-technical audiences, all in under a minute.

/What we made

We made two 3D animations. For the Air-voltaic cell, we worked from Ionech's own storyboards and script to build a single scene that follows the energy conversion cycle step by step, using particle simulations and high-quality rendering to show electrons, oxygen and superoxide ions at molecular scale. For the nanogenerator film, we led the creative from a blank page, developing the visual concept and storyboards before production. Three use-case scenes, with realistic water simulations, show the technology at work on an autonomous surface vessel, a marine buoy and a RIB. Both films were narrated by a professional voiceover artist and delivered with subtitled versions for web and social.

/The result

We came to Animated Technologies with a tough problem: how we succinctly describe a complex scientific process and bridge this science into a product, all within a 60 second window. The video had to be accessible to a wide audience range, giving enough detail to be scientifically credible without alienating non-technical individuals. Working with the Animated Technologies team was a pleasure. They were able to help formulate our idea into a workable animation design and did a great job keeping us updated on progress. We used the videos as part of our seed fundraise and we were able to secure a government contract as well as VC investment with the help of the videos.
