/The challenge

Supercritical is developing a new class of hydrogen electrolyser: high-pressure and membraneless, delivering green hydrogen at over 200 bar without a separate compressor, and without membranes, iridium or PFAS chemicals. Almost everything that makes it different happens inside the machine, where a spec sheet or a static render can't show it. With a major industry conference only weeks away, Supercritical came to us with a storyboard of simple sketches and a clear brief: show the product and the sense of the technology at work, keep confidential detail private, no voiceover, and have at least one section ready in time for the event.

/What we made

We built the animation from an STL export of Supercritical's own module design and their full brand guidelines, so the product geometry was accurate and the look matched their materials from the first frame. The film is structured as three segments, the product presented in isolation, a fly-through and a zoom into the heart of the technology, that play as one piece of around 90 seconds or as separate shorts. Light and motion suggest the process happening inside the system without exposing the internals. We phased production so the first section was ready for the May 2025 conference, with the rest completed afterwards, and the storyboard evolved with Supercritical's feedback throughout.

/The result

Supercritical has used the animation at four trade shows so far. With no voiceover, it works on a noisy stand and in front of an international audience.

Animated Technologies were responsive and understanding to a dynamic curation process. They helped us go from an idea to reality, taking our simply sketched ideas into a great informative animation.
